Hi, I’m Frank Pilato, guitarist and educator. My journey in music began at a very young age, leading me to earn the Allan Holdsworth Improvisation Diploma at the Modern Music Institute, and later to move to Hollywood to study at the Musicians Institute, where I completed the program with the Honor Vocational. I then graduated with top honors from the O. Respighi Conservatory. Since then, I have collaborated with internationally renowned artists and had the honor of performing in Andrea Marcelli’s Stories project alongside Jeff Berlin, Gary Willis, and Michel Forman, stepping in for Allan Holdsworth.
I have released solo albums:
Stories (ESC Records)
Virtuoso: I 24 Capricci di Paganini (Relaxo Records)
Spettri (Lizard Records, Regione Toscana)
Y.O.U. Allan Holdsworth Tribute (Lizard Records)
I am currently the guitarist for the progressive band Garden Wall and the contemporary music project Mondenstrunken. I have also performed with Dave Carpenter, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Jolly Rox, Ludovico Fulci, Miranda, Rose Villain, Frank Gambale, Matt Toka, and many others. In 2018, an event led me to seek a deeper artistic balance in Jazz and 20th-century art music. This experience inspired me to develop “ModalChromatization”, a method designed to help musicians build a personal and conscious musical language.
