My Story: Notes of a Journey

Hi,
I’m Frank Pilato, guitarist and educator. My journey in music began at a very young age, leading me to earn the Allan Holdsworth Improvisation Diploma at the Modern Music Institute, and later to move to Hollywood to study at the Musicians Institute, where I completed the program with the Honor Vocational. I then graduated with top honors from the O. Respighi Conservatory.
Since then, I have collaborated with internationally renowned artists and had the honor of performing in M° Andrea Marcelli’s Stories project alongside Jeff Berlin, Gary Willis, and Michel Forman, stepping in for Allan Holdsworth.

I have released solo albums:

  • Stories (ESC Records)
  • VirtuosoI 24 Capricci di Paganini (Relaxo Records)
  • Spettri (Lizard Records, Regione Toscana)
  • Y.O.U. (Lizard Records)

I am currently the guitarist for the progressive band Garden Wall and the contemporary music project Mondenstrunken. I have also performed with: M° Jingbo Wang, M° Andrea Marcelli, M° Ludovico Fulci, M° Leonardo Rossi, Dave Carpenter, Allan Holdsworth, Jolly Rox, Rose Villain, Passogigante, Colleen Ann Fitzpatrick, Sushi Rain, Frank Gambale, Paolo Fattorini, Tobias Relenberg, Miranda and many others.
In 2018, an event led me to seek a deeper artistic balance in Jazz and 20th-century art music.
This experience inspired me to develop “Modal Chromatization”, a method designed to help musicians build a personal and conscious musical language.

I'm cited in the authoritative university textbook: "Musica Presente".
